Few Events this June has got me thinking as much as the passing of one Aaron Spelling. Come to thinking of it June is the month of weddings and weddings played a large role in many a Spelling production. From "Burke's Law" to "Dynasty" to "Melrose Place" to "Beverly Hills 90210" to Tori's own nuptial misadventures a Spelling produced wedding had an anything goes but the kitchen sink sense of drama. BUT in a serious way Aaron Spelling sherperded several generations thru the pitfalls of real or imagine love and hate, trust and betrayal, sin and salvation. My childhood, teen years, my whole life has had videotrack provided by Spelling running in the backround being more than "mindcandy" and closer to a personal emotional growth chart.
"Mod Squad" inform me how the world around little kids like me was changing. "Charlie Angels" fired up the adolescent imagination. "T.J.Hooker", "S.W.A.T"., and "Starsky and Hutch" were constant reminders of the neverending struggle of good vs. evil and the trials of the honest cop dealing with the "Man" ( usually portrayed by a loud abrasive rule stickler of a character actor who took 45 minutes to see it our heroes way.) These shows tapped both the highest(family and trust are important in life) and the lowest(cat fights are fun to watch and even funner if designer dresses and water are involved.) of America's cultural ideals. Mr Spelling also brought us Heather Locklear and Farah Fawcett both of whom inspired posters for the boys plus wardrobe and hairstyle changes for the girls.
More recently children of this generation have tapped into the family angst of "7th Heaven" a more wholesome, more community oriented tale of minister's family dealing in new world 50 years removed from the one Aaron Spelling started his career. So much like "Captain Stuebing" bringing the love boat back to port after an hour long cruise into separations, crazy mixups, and healty dose of wisdom from "Issac" and the "Doc", Spelling Productions brings many of us back to basics that sticking together is the key to surviving changing times. Oh and don't forget to have fun....lot's and lot's of fun..."Issac make that dos Margharitas one for us and one for our friend and let's have a toast...to Mr Spelling ..Thank You.."
