It just a thought but... wonder if its possible to watch NFL Draft "gavel to gavel"(ESPN,NFL Network) and not have cascading synaptic failure by... say....the fifth round, pick 27....from grown men repeating the phrase "he's a speciman... just a flat out physical speciman and he knows the game of football"...really Sport Pundit Man, what are the chances a team would draft a well conditioned athlete who's been training in his sport since what..second grade. Now let's...Drop the drug analogy...we are not "addicted" to oil...Oil has been the most important energy source driving economic and social development for over a century. You can no more be addicted to oil than the human body can be addicted to food, water or air. It's more akin to having "A Fast Food Jones". People like the ease,speed, and price they can get fast food at even though they might know that long term diet of hi-fat/hi-sodium and tri-glydes ain't healthy and will weaken the body's systems... . Is this a simplified example? Yes(contrary to popular opinion Thotbot is not DeepThinker) but it illustrates that these problems come down to the choices we make. Perhaps we can balance our food policy eat a little less breathe a little more(diet and excercise) and balance our energy policy use less fossil fuels and invest a portion of oil revenues into replacement energy development(conserve and innovate). How about....
A panel of conservationists, engineers,geologists, (even a politicians,journalists and oil company executives) the appointments would be made then voted on by the public give 'em three year terms and modest but fair stipend of six to nine times the average american's salary out of oil revenues....workable or too close to an "Oil-tocracy"...they can work together on maximizing conservation, efficiency and development of alternative sources of energy using small portions of revenues.
Look the money package for a current oil executive exceeded 400,000,000 dollars... is that ethical..?..does it even make business sense to give someone that amount in compensation....?... Where's that guy's salary cap and What do he do for that kind of coin? Done asking questions it's time for contempletive reflection on harnassing the power of Earth's oceans...no use can't contempletively reflect enough.

Here's hoping he can bring fresh outlook and openness ("peristroka" was the word WSJ's David Brooks used) to WH press office that has seemed cranky, suspicious and tad unreliable in its pronouncements since at least last summer. ....Now on to the continuing gas/energy price run up...over 30 years ago a young child would hear adults complain throughout the media about do nothing politicians and price gouging oil companies about secret opec/coporate deals. A favorite gripe concerned squashed fuel efficeint designs or engineering patents and of course the oil tankers waiting just over the horizon filled with fuel waiting for the price to go up a few ticks more.... . Who knows if it was true, false...or a halfed baked plot from an episode of the Six-Million Dollar Man... three decades later who cares.... no part of society in any part of the world made any real changes in technology or behavior that would have gone a long way tward solving the problem. That young child is now The Adult of this century and now all the adults of this time bear the responsibility either confronting or passing on the task of coordinating environmental, energy and economics needs of the planet. Is It That Difficult to have folks work together and solve global problems? Comments, solutions and even criticisms are encouraged

Fennie Says...pick up, rake up and bag up some trash...it's Earth Day show the planet a bit of respect. Fennie led a troop of intrepid young people on a clean up of a local walking trail which has become more popular.. as a result little more messier since the warmer weather arrived. The trail can be swampy, overgrown with pricklers and thick brush but remarkably everyone stuck to their tasks...folks left the trail much cleaner than they found it. One participant questioned why people that used this trail and obviously enjoy the outdoors....would leave so much trash behind...no quick answer came to mind.

Now we're getting somewhere...Duke and Durham N.C. in an uproar, TomKat's kid, and Queen Liz turns 80 (and so on..) let the non-news roll. Face it the Duke story was news for the a couple weeks in March but now it just feeds the crime of the moment/talking head lawyer show circut niche market. The case would benefit from solid police investigation, responsible legal representation(of both parties) and complete abandonment of the - every fifteen minutes- on the latest- taxidriver says/searchwarrant for/pictures of- update...4LOG(for the love of God) please stop it and turn the attention to CHAD and SUDAN!! The Darfur continues to be a escalating African/World disaster *-*man made man prevents*-* fueled by starvation, slavery and sectarian violence. Thotbot finds it hard to complain about 3$ gas. Is it wrong for a small portion of the large profits of OPEC and the Oil industries go to stabilizing the food delivery and healthcare systems in the region? Would that be wrong and impractical...? Now about the coverage of Cruise kid....................stop it............ no really stop it.....it will be historically embarrassing for this current generation to have future generations look back then judge us by our media coverage of celebrity wedding and births while important international and domestic issues went underreported..celebrity events have People,US,EW,Premier,Enquirer,E! network et. al. there is no reason to be overreported anywhere else. Start reporting on something newsworthy........And not about the Queen's birthday this has no impact on anything..well almost anything the United Kingdom's tourist industry should get a bump..but again this is Travel Channel stuff.
There you have it ... another call for news editors to get about the business of covering critical events and peoples reactions to them...

May we ask why....we continue to feel threaten by a collection of semi-regional powers with barely second world economies....whose power base is a three legged stool of fear, hate and ignorace.
Many of us were born raised educated and worked (trained) on a planet where complete destruction was always 30 minutes away...through a combination of vigilance, alliances and diplomacy(and luck) the worst secenarios were avoided. Now these were powerful nation states that faced each other...with fearsome weapons and firm ideologies... are today's threats any more serious?
